What Did the Crucifixion Actually Accomplish?

The crucifixion of Jesus is in fact the most powerful and amazing feat ever completed in Human history. To many, it is a story that is retold every year and has lost it’s impact and significance. I want to re-visit what actually happened, with the hope that all who read this message will see it with the amazement that actually lies within it’s power.

A war was waging for Humanity’s souls at the Garden of Eden. The devil had already fallen from Heaven and knew his fate. He was a created being that was beautiful and in a high position, but was cast out for rebelling against God. He witnessed the creation, but like all the other angels, he too was shocked when he saw God form man in God’s own image. Not even the Angels were created in God’s image! His jealousy reached a high point and it was immediately after that, he began to plot against God’s plan. The goal: to take down God’s masterpiece, eternally – that it would share his same fate.

We all know that the devil used three tactics to take down humanity; lust of the flesh, pride of life and lust of the eyes. The devil knew God had told Adam strict instructions and that Adam would relay them back to Eve. He would first bring doubt, but not to Adam. He would go through Eve in Genesis 3:1, instead. He said to the woman, ‘Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden?” After the seed of doubt was planted, the devil moved onto the next moves; the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

Eve added to God’s instructions, for God never said “ do not touch it.” We see this in Genesis 3:3, “but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” This is exactly what the devil was thriving on, someone who didn’t pay attention to exactly what God had actually said. In Genesis 3:4 it reads, “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” He told a lie to her, hoping she would take the bait when he questioned what God had actually said, he was twisting the truth. Then, he enticed her with his own pride that was the cause of his own downfall, to be like God, Himself. The bait was taken. She had believed his life, instead of God’s truth. She was enticed and walked over to the forbidden fruit.

In Genesis 3:6 it reads, “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.” When Eve touched it and saw that nothing happened to her (her own lie was that if she touched it, she would die, something she added to what God actually said) she believed that the devil really was being honest, he had gained her trust based on false pretenses, so she shared with Adam. All it would take was Eve to convince her husband. The devil would just sit back and watch. He watched as Humanity’s curse would unfold and it was oh, so easy!

God knew what would happen, which is exactly why He created us in His image… to ensure He would be able to redeem us! You see, Angels are not created in God’s image and that’s why angels cannot be redeemed. Because we are made in the image of God, He was able to become Human flesh and use His own Holy blood. Only Holy blood would be powerful enough to cleanse sin, to God’s own standards. It also ensured a Virgin birth because bilogically speaking, God didn’t need a male sperm, just the flesh of humans. It would be a supernatural occurrence, but the one way Jesus could take back all the curses and reverse everything the devil alerted.

The curse of eternal damnation would be taken back in a future event called the crucifixion, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers;
He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel” Genesis 3:15. Jesus would remove the curse of the land mentioned in Genesis 3:17, “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it
all the days of your life.” Jesus would do this by having a crown of thorns placed on His head, while killing the curse on the cross. Thorns were a result of a cursed ground and Jesus would remove it so that when He returned as King, He would make all things new again.

Because Jesus is God, He never sinned, although He still was tempted and felt what we feel. Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” All who sin die, not only physically, but spiritually. Since Jesus never sinned, death didn’t apply to Him eternally, only momentarily, three days to be exact. Jesus had to experience physical death (one part of sin’s consequence) in order to redeem us eternally. He destroyed physical death, to give eternal life!

At the cross, the devil was convinced that he had the Son of God. The devil and all the fallen Angels thought, at that point, if they could kill the Son of God, they could rule the earth, forever. Little did they know that the last words from Jesus, we’re His war cry. When Jesus said, “It is Finished”, He had completed God’s redemption. Hell and all it’s company had no idea that Jesus would rise from the dead. He would be glorified, having all the power to judge because He received God’s punishment for sin, on the cross. He had earned back the title deed to the earth and to Humanity and three days later, the devil and his fallen angels would find out! But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more to the cross, check my other pages for more. God is not simplistic, but absolutely organized and deep. Find out more by reading for yourself.

The crucifixion was proof of how serious God takes sin and the punishment required because of it. Yet, it shows God’s absolute sovereignty and how He already had a master plan that would outwit even the devil. It shows His pure love for humanity and I pray that if you don’t know Him as your Lord and Savior, you will realize what He did for you and ask Him into your life, today!
