Homeless Pack

Homelessness is an ever increasing factor that is very taboo, but needs to be addressed . I used to be very “leery” about even approaching homeless people, out of fear that they could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. I still take all these precautions, but my husband and I have decided to model being the Good Samaritan instead. Our family has taken a simple approach to pack a backpack with essentials and still provide them with the gospel message and a Bible. Here is a list of things we include:

  • Printed list of shelters
  • Printed Homeless services in our area (includes medical and dental assistance, as well as legal help).
  • Bible
  • Socks
  • Chap Stick
  • Pen and notepad
  • T-shirt
  • Retired Sneakers
  • Bar of soap
  • Tooth brush and paste
  • Water Bottle

I usually run into homeless people at stop lights and only have seconds to make a decision. I use the ABC’s acronym to help me share the Gospel in 30 seconds or less. A- Is for acknowledge that Jesus paid for your sin in the cross, B Is for Believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven and repent in your heart, C-is for Confess that you repent, believe and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior with your mouth and you will have eternal life with Him after you die.

Plant the seed and allow God to do the rest! I realize that we cannot help everyone in need, but the idea is making yourself open to being used by the Lord and seeing people through His eyes. The parable of the list coin comes to mind. It is found in Luke 15:8-10. I also think about Luke 15:7 where Jesus describes the rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner. We won’t know until we get to heaven whose lives were touched by us while here on Earth.

Please feel free to contact me with any other methods of sharing the Gospel that you have used and I will post it, to share it with others and give God the glory.
